Sialkot receives the highest rain in 30 years
SIALKOT: Thursday’s rain was the highest in Sialkot during the last 30 years. It recorded 251mm of rain at Sialkot Cantt and 167mm at the airport.
Heavy rain left five people dead, including two minor children and their mother, in four separate roof and wall collapse incidents.
Reports said that a woman and her two minor children were killed when the boundary wall of neighbours fell on the mud house of a nomad family in China Chowk. Amina Bibi (65) and her children Ashraf (8) and Sakeena (4) died on the spot.
In Gulistan Mor, Saad Ali (50) was killed after the roof of his mud house caved in during heavy rain.
In Nawan Pind Abadi, labourer Ghulam Hussain and his wife Allah Rakhi were injured seriously.
In Daska, teacher Sobia Shaukat (22) was electrocuted after he touched an electric poll on Bank Road.
GUJRANWALA: Six people, including three children, were killed while over a dozen others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents in the Gujranwala district on Thursday.
District Coordination Officer Azmat Mehmood imposed flood emergency throughout the district and cancelled leaves of all government officials.
Reports said the roof of the house of Nawaz (40) collapsed in Ghulampura locality of Kamoki. As a result, all three family members were buried under the debris. The area people pulled out the bodies of Nawaz, his son Zaman (11) and one-year-old daughter Maryam from the rubble.
Muhammad Ahmad (11) was electrocuted when he touched an electric poll in a street on Naushera Road.
Majid Ali (12) was killed while his father Jamil and brothers Ali Muhammad and Shah Muhammad suffered injuries when the wall of a seminary collapsed on them on Nat Kalan Road in Ghakkhar Town.
According to reports reaching here, around a dozen people were injured in different parts of the city and its suburbs in collapsing of walls and shades of houses and shops. They were admitted to the DHQ Hospital in a critical condition.
The Punjab government has already announced Rs500,000 compensation for each deceased and Rs100,000 for each injured.
FAISALABAD: Five people, including a minor girl, were killed and 21 others sustained injuries when roofs of different houses and factories collapsed due to torrential rain on Thursday.
DCO Noorul Amen Mengal confirmed the deaths of five people and injuries to 21 others.
He said the district received 110mm rain on Tuesday and 140mm on Thursday.
He said one person each was killed in Tandlianwala and Samundri, two in a factory roof collapse and a girl died in Arfa Karim Nagar. He said 16 cattle were also killed.
The Rescue 1122 officials said Fiza Shaukat (5) was killed while her sister Tahira (7), brother Tariq (12) and her father Shaukat sustained injuries when the roof of their house caved in in Arfa Karim Nagar.
Asif and another labourer were killed and two other labourers were injured when roofs of two factories collapsed on Maqbool Road and Ghulam Mohammadabad.
OKARA: Two persons were killed and seven others suffered injuries in different parts of the district in rain-related incidents during the last 36 hours.
A youth, Maqsood Ahmad, of Shamsia Colony was electrocuted while Fayyaz Ahmad was killed when the roof of his room collapsed on him in Hujra Shah Muqeem.
Six persons of two families -- Ghulam Fatima, Yasmeen, Fazal Bibi, Sajid, Sajjad and Muhammad Yar -- were injured when the roofs of their houses caved in in Rafi Housing Scheme in Okara. They were shifted to the DHQ Hospital where they were said to be in stable a condition.
Muhammad Akram (5), of Shadman Colony, suffered head injuries after a wall collapsed on him. He was shifted to Children’s Hospital in Lahore in a critical condition.
The Okara city has received 102mm of rain till the filing of this report.
SHEIKHUPURA: A woman was killed and four others sustained serious injuries in two separate rain-related incidents in the district on Thursday.
Reports said that Shahzadi Bibi was killed while her two daughters suffered critical injuries when the roof of their house caved in in Rehmanabad locality near Safdarabad.
Razia Bibi and her daughter were injured seriously after the wall of their house collapsed on them in Abid Town, Ferozewala.
KASUR: Four people were electrocuted while seven others suffered injuries in roof and wall collapse incidents here on Thursday.
Reports said that prayer leader Qari Muhammad Imran of Jamia Mosque Muhammadi in Parnawan village was electrocuted when he touched the mike which was electrified.
Muhammad Shairza of Lakhnaykay village, Mustafaabad, was electrocuted when he was cutting fodder at the machine.
Muhammad Tariq of Allahabad was electrocuted when an 11KV wire fell on him.
Farmer Muhammad Yahya and his 12 cattle were killed when 11KV wires fell on them in Kotli Rai Abu Bakar village Saima and her sister Shumaila suffered serious injuries when the roof of their house collapsed on them in Tara Gar village in the limits of Sadar police station.
Najma (35) and her daughter Ayesha (12) sustained injuries after the roof of their house caved-in in Jamatpura locality. Rescue 1122 personnel shifted them to the DHQ Hospital.
Lalo Khan and Muhammad Afzal of Atheelpur village were on their way when the wall of a house fell on them. They received injuries and were taken to DHQ Hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
Muhammad Saleem sustained serious injuries when the roof of the house caved in in Karaniwala Chak-5 in Pattoki. He was shifted to Jinnah Hospital in Lahore in a critical condition.
