Villagers told to shift to safer places

CHINIOT: People of about 100 villages located along the River Chenab have been directed to shift to safer places as 400,000 cusecs of water will pass through Chiniot on Saturday (today) or Sunday (tomorrow).

The direction was given by the district coordination officer while presiding over a meeting of line departments’ officials to review arrangements for tackling possible floods in the Chenab.

The meeting was informed that nine relief camps had been set up for flood victims in different parts of the district, including Government Islamia College; union council office in Hersa Sheikh village; Government High School, Mathrooma; Government College Jamiaabad; Government Higher Secondary School, Bhowana; Government Elementary School, Kot Amir Shah; Government Higher Secondary School, Lalian; Government Veterinary Dispensary, Langar Makhdoom; and Government High School, Thatti Bala Raja.

The relief camps will have dispensaries and the provision of food for flood victims and their animals.

The district administration has also established a district flood control room which will work 24 hours a day under the supervision of DO (Coordination) Nazar Muhammad Baloch. The DOC can be contacted at 047-9210107.
