LRC to stage seven cup races today

LAHORE: The rescheduled day/night Lahore race meeting, studded with seven cup events named after national war heroes, will be held at the Racecourse here on Tuesday.

The races were originally scheduled to be held on Saturday but were postponed because of heavy rains in the Punjab metropolis.

The main events will be held in honour of recipients of the highest gallantry awards Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, Major Mohammad Akram Shaheed, Captain Mohammad Sarwar Shaheed, Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, Major Tufail Mohammad Shaheed, Pilot Officer Rashid Minhas Shaheed and Lance Naik Mohammad Mahfooz Shaheed.

The feature event to be run over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres — the Shabbir Sharif Shaheed Nishan-i-Haider Cup Class V Div III — has a classy field of seven acceptors on whom their owners have not only invested high amounts of money but pinned high hopes for excellent performance in the forthcoming Winter Meetings.

In all, exactly one hundred acceptors are to compete in the nine-race card. All races will be contested over the distance of 1,000 metres with the horses marching towards the starting gate for the first meeting at 3.00pm.

LANCE NAIK MOHAMMAD MAHFOOZ SHAHEED NISHAN-I-HAIDER CUP CLASS VII DIV III — 1,000M:

Sahil 9-4, Captain Templar 9-0, Jay Cutier 8-10, Lucky Sohna 8-8, Excellent 8-7, Nikita 8-6, Spirit Jim 8-4, King Khan 8-4, Run Bride Run 8-0.
