Rescue 1122 evacuates 33,000 people in Punjab

LAHORE: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) evacuated over 33, 000 flood affected people as of Wednesday evening.

Of the 33, 000 flood-hit in 26 districts of Punjab, 5,205 were evacuated in Hafizabad; 7,754 in Jhang, 5,721 in Mandi Bahauddin, 2,352 in Chiniot, 2,084 in Sargodha, 1,939 in Sialkot and 1,749 in Narowal.

According to a news release, Rescue 1122 has been conducting continuous search, rescue and evacuation operations in flood-hit districts of the province during night timings since start of the recent flashfloods.

Major rescue operations were conducted in Jhang on Wednesday where 96 boats participated in the rescue operation and 7,754 people were evacuated so far.

Likewise, major rescue operations are being conducted in Hafizabad, Chiniot, Jhang, Multan and Muzaffargarh districts.

DG Rescue Punjab Dr Rizwan Naseer reached Jhang in wee hours of Wednesday and started monitoring operations.

Disaster Response Force headed by Dr Farhan Khalid and Mian Muhammad Ahsan are moving along with riverside and providing backup support to the respective districts.
