Two injured as Nato container attacked in Chaman

QUETTA: Armed militants attacked a container carrying equipment for US and Nato troops in Pakistan's bordering town with Afghanistan on Saturday, police said.

Wahab Khan, a police official, told Dawn that armed militants opened fire at a Nato container in the Bypass area of Chaman and injured its driver and cleaner.

The injured driver and cleaner were rushed to Civil Hospital Chaman for medical treatment. "Both had suffered bullet wounds," Khan added.

The attackers sped away on their motorcycle after launching the attack.

Frontier Corps (FC) and police personnel reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident.

The container was on its way to neighbouring Afghanistan from Karachi to supply equipment to US and Nato troops battling Taliban rebels in the war-torn country.

Militants have been targeting Nato supplies in Quetta and other troubled districts of Balochistan for more than seven years.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
