Shahram, Sajjad, Sharjeel shine with century breaks in ranking snooker

KARACHI: The talented trio of Shahram Changezi, Mohammad Sajjad and Sharjeel Mehmood excelled by hammering a century break apiece on the penultimate day of the group matches in the sixth National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) Ranking Snooker Championship at the bank’s sports complex on Saturday.

Islamabad-based Shahram, who recently represented the country in the Asian Team Event at home, mustered an elegant break of 128 — the second highest in the event so far after 134 piled up by local player Sohail Shehzad. His break came in the fourth frame in his 4-2 triumph over Sindh’s Mohammad Ishtaiq. The former won the duel 61-42, 61-41, 27-54, 128-4, 39-47, 93-12.

Former Asian No 2 Sajjad came up with a break of 101 against Sharjeel in the second frame who replied with 103 in the fourth but to no avail. Sajjad won 88-11, 101-38, 48-83, 0-126, 69-42 and 61-24.

Meanwhile, quartet comprising bearded Abdul Sattar, defending champion Asjad Iqbal, Mohammad Sajjad and Mohammad Majid Ali have confirmed their places in the knockout round of 16.
