PESHAWAR: One policeman was killed and three others injured early on Monday as heavily armed militants stormed Tall police station in Hangu, police sources said.

Hangu police control centre confirmed that a suicide bomber was among the attackers, who either had been shot dead or had blown himself when stopped by security forces.

The police further said that the explosion in the police station caused damage to the building.

The Ansarul Mujahdeen militant faction claimed responsibility for the attack.

The relatively less known militant group is based in the tribal region. The militant factions and al-Qaeda linked groups have led a bloody campaign against the state in recent years, carrying out hundreds of attacks on security forces and government targets, concentrated largely in the northwest tribal region.

Hangu borders the northwestern tribal region of Orakzai, one of Pakistan's seven lawless districts on the Afghan border considered to be the hub of Taliban and Al Qaeda-linked militants.

Two killed in Dera Ismail Khan‏

Unidentified gunmen shot dead two brothers of Station House Officer (SHO) Kulachi, Saifur Rehman in Roda village of Dera Ismail Khan on Monday, sources said.

More than 15 armed militants attacked the house of Rehman in Roda area's University Town police station late at night.

According to police, two brothers of the SHO, Akhtar Zaman and Fakhar Zaman died due to firing while his third brother Ismail was injured in the attack.

Police said the incident is a reaction to yesterday's anti-terror operation which had left a terrorist dead.

Militants kill peace committee member in Swat

Militants gunned down a peace committee member in the Kabal tehsil of Swat, police sources said.

Sources said that unknown attackers opened fire on peace committee member Zahir Shah in Swat, killing him on the spot.

The attackers managed to escape after launching the attack.

Militants blow up bridge in Khyber

Suspected militants blew up a bridge linking Peshawar with the Shin Qamar area of Bara in Khyber Agency.

Official sources said that the militants had planted explosives to blow up the bridge and the destruction of the bridge disconnected the road link between Shin Qamar and Peshawar.

Following the incident, security forces personnel started a search operation in the area.

Earlier, two people were shot dead for violation of curfew in the Dogra area of Khyber. The deceased persons were students of Technical College.

QWP leader gunned down in Buner

Unknown assailants gunned down Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) leader Pervazi Khan in the Gokan Dara area of Buner district.

According to police, Pervaiz Khan was killed in front of his house in Gokan Dara area near Pir Baba. One of the alleged attackers was arrested whereas the others escaped.

Station House Officer (SHO) Dagar police station Javed Khan said that one of the accused persons was arrested while a probe was under way to investigate the killing which appeared to be the result of a family feud.

Pervaiz Khan’s brother Adalat Khan, also a QWP leader, was killed along with his guard and a friend in a remote-controlled Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast on February 22 2014 in Daggar District courts.
