Another journalist shot dead in Hafizabad

GUJRANWALA: Some unidentified men shot dead a journalist in Hafizabad on Sunday.

After the incident, newsmen staged a sit-in outside the press club.

Reports said Yaqoob Shehzad of a private TV channel was sitting at a car showroom on Gujranwala-Hafizabad Road when some men came there and opened fire, killing him on the spot. A passerby, Amjad Ali, also suffered a bullet injury.

It was the second incident of murder of a journalist from Hafizabad during the last three days.

Earlier, Ali Haider Bhatti of an Urdu newspaper was gunned down by his rivals.

The Punjab chief minister has taken notice of the incident and sought a report within 24 hours.

The Hafizabad district police officer reached the spot and ordered arrest of the suspects at the earliest.

The DPO said Yaqoob received three bullets.

Meanwhile, the journalists of Hafizabad led by press club secretary Asad Jabbar staged a sit-in outside the press club and demanded arrest of killers.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the murder and sought a report from the DPO. He directed that the culprits be arrested at the earliest and justice be provided to the affected family.
