Young man shot dead in Swabi

SWABI: A young man was killed and his father injured when their rivals opened fire on them in Chota Lahor tehsil here on Thursday.

The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of Yar Hussain police station and both the rival parties belonged to Beikyara village. Police said that the cause of the incident was an old enmity.

They said that Mohammad Arif and his father, Mohammad Rafiq, were going in their car to appear in a local court in Chota Lahor tehsil when they came under attack near Jaganat Bridge.

SHO Khalid Iqbal said the attackers ambushed the car, killing Mr Arif and injuring Mr Rafiq. The attackers escaped after the crime. Mr Rafiq was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar, in critical condition.

The injured Rafiq told police that Niaz Ali and Tariq Khan opened fire on them that resulted in the death of his son.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party leaders and workers left for Karachi on Thursday to participate in the public meeting of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, which was scheduled to be held there on Saturday (tomorrow).

The caravan of the PPP workers, led by district president Javed Inqilabi, is expected to reach Karachi on Friday morning and the same day they would meet the party chairperson Bilawal Zardari.

“We would return home after participating in the public meeting,” said Mr Javed before leaving for Karachi. He said that during the last four decades it was the first time that leaders of the party from Swabi were participating in the PPP public meeting in Karachi. “Mr Bilawal is starting his political journey from Karachi and we want that it should be a remarkable start,” he said.
