Five devastating impacts of Punjab floods

The floods in Punjab this year left around 282 people dead and 489 injured. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported that around 1.8 million people in total were affected in the province, while more than 42,795 houses were partially or fully damaged.

But this was not the only damage caused by the calamity.

On Monday, a multi-sector initial rapid assessment report was released highlighting the current situation of five districts in Punjab that were affected by the floods. The surveys were jointly carried out by the National Disaster Management Authority and the United Nations humanitarian coordinator in Chiniot, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Jhang and Multan districts.

Following are five devastating impacts of floods in these five districts, as highlighted by the report:


1: Around 77pc of crops damaged


2: 53pc children not going to schools in flood-affected areas


3: Malaria is most common health issue reported


4: Around 72.8pc of households report loss of livelihood due to floods


5: Roads badly damaged, affecting access to and from communities
