Pakistani-Canadian named GM for popular LA baseball team
Baseball team Los Angeles Dodgers is all set to name Farhan Zaidi — a Muslim and Canadian of Pakistan descent — as their next General Manager, said a report published on The New York Times.
The news is expected to be formally announced later this week.
Zaidi grew up in the Philippines. He has two economics degrees including a Bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.
Zaidi had previously served as an Assistant General Manager for the Oakland Athletics’ front office. Moreover, his experience includes working in consulting and business development for a division of a sports magazine.
Last month, the Dodgers had hired Andrew Friedman to be their president of baseball operations.
His hiring is seen as a bold move and seems to reinforce a trend in which statistic-minded executives are taking important positions across baseball.
