Privatization of Thatta cement opposed

THATTA, Sept 8: The Progressive Employees Union, Thatta Cement Factory, has opposed the privatization of the factory and said it will render hundreds of workers jobless.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Monday, union general-secretary Mohammad Ibrahim Kumbhar said the factory had paid Rs7.65 billion in the shape of taxes to the government since its establishment.

However, he regretted that the factory was being disposed of at a throw-away price.

He said the union would go to the court of law to protect the rights of the workers.
