PTI protest: PPP warns govt against using force

LAHORE: The PPP has asked the PML-N government to give a free hand to the Tehreek-i-Insaf for its Islamabad protest and don’t resort to use of force or preemptive detentions of PTI workers.

“The PTI leadership should also not insist on taking the procession to the red zone because that may provoke the protesters like the last time when they ransacked the PTV building,” PPP Punjab general secretary Tanvir Ashraf Kaira said here on Wednesday.

He said both the government and the PTI should behave in responsible manners. “The PPP has also rejected the government’s move to proceed against PTI leader Jehangir Tareen as it would further vitiate the political atmosphere of the country,” he said, adding that given its timing the move would be described as sheer vendetta.

He said PPP’s stance was in favour of change in the government through democratic means and not through the politics of sit-ins, coercion or intimidation.
