CEC name will be announced before Dec 1: Khursheed Shah
ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah said Friday that the name of the new Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan (CEC) would be announced before December 1.
Speaking to media representatives outside the Parliament House in the federal capital, Shah said that appointing a new CEC is the responsibility of both the government and the opposition, adding that due to the need of a mutual agreement, there had been a delay in the appointment.
He further said that he would speak to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with regards to the CEC appointment, and also mentioned that he had received a phone call from the premier today in this regard but he was attending the National Assembly session at that time.
He said that apart from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI), all parties had agreed on former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani for the CEC post.
Earlier this week, the government had sought additional time from the Supreme Court for the appointment of a new CEC.
