Story time: A wonderland of words
LONG long ago, there was a land called Wordland, which was wonderful because lots of words lived there happily. Everyday they did something new to enjoy and created fun for others, but some words were very naughty and were a nuisance for others.
Play was very active and fun-loving, it was always involved in making something different happen, which often created a lot of noise, but everyone liked Play’s activities because it made the time pass well for others. When Play was joined by its friend Jump, everywhere there was shouting and laughter. When they would swing on the highest branch of tree, all the birds would fly away.
The mother of Read, Write, Drink and Eat was very disturbed by this because Play’s activities disturbed and distracted her children. They did not do anything on time, in fact the routine of all words became disturbed due to Play.
One day Quarrel came to visit the Wordland, he saw all the words busy in marry-making, all the words were very happy. Quarrel felt jealous that how happyily they lived here. So he pushed Smile, who fell down.
Write rushed with Help towards Smile, they made him get up while Kindness brought some water for Smile to drink. Energy came with some fresh fruits and they all felt really angry with Quarrel. Play and the other words asked Kick to throw Quarrel out of Wordland.
Wise came up with the idea to have a celebration, Enjoyment was told to do all the arrangements to ensure that everyone had fun. Enjoyment decided to invite all the words and others from outside Wordland. Among the invitees were Aunt Paper and Uncle Pen, who lived just outside Wordland.
On the day of the party, when Aunt Paper and Uncle Pen arrived, Hospitality welcomed them at the entrance and took them inside. The guests were pleased to see all the words having a good time. Eat and Drink made sure the guests got many tasty refreshments while Play didn’t allow Boredom to meet them and spoil their fun.
Looking at everyone, Aunt Paper said to Uncle Pen, “I have an idea! Why don’t we invite all the words to our city? We could gather them and ask Teach to let humans know about the wonderful habitants of Wordland.”
“Great idea! But where will they live in our city, there isn’t a place big enough for them?”
Idea was sitting next to them and heard them talk, he turned to them and said, “I know what you can do. Aunt Paper and Uncle Pen, you can both join your forces and make a book, where all the words can live happily in its different pages.”
The words too were excited by Idea’s suggestion and they all started to live in Bookland, where Uncle Pen and Aunt Paper took care of every word. Every now and then, new words came to join them and sometimes some old and useless words died and were forgotten about.
