Teenagers held for stealing gold jewellery in Kohat
KOHAT: Police have arrested two teenage boys on the charges of stealing 75-tola gold jewellery from a house in the cantonment.
Assistant superintendent of police Mansoor Aman told a press conference here on Friday that one Zahid Bokhari, a resident of Happy Valley, had reported to the police about theft of 75-tola gold jewellery, Rs25,000 cash and a mobile set from his house on Dec 8.
A team, headed by DSP Lal Fareed, conducted a probe into the case and arrested two boys aged between 12 and 14 years. Mr Aman said that the team got suspicious about the boys because their mother worked as maid in the house.
He said that during interrogation the two, identified as Shahzeb Khan and Zeeshan Khan, admitted that they had stolen the jewellery and other items from a cupboard of the house.
The ASP said that the gold jewellery and other items were recovered after the suspects informed them about the place where these were kept. The cantonment police have registered a theft case against the two teenagers and put them in the lock-up.
TRANSPORT FARES: The Kohat administration has reduced transport fare for all students on intra-city routes from Rs15 to Rs10.
However, the transport unions have refused to decrease fares on the inter-city routes, including Kohat-Rawalpindi, Kohat-Peshawar, Kohat-Bannu and Kohat-Hangu, demanding lowering of prices of engine oil and spare parts before such a step could be taken.
Traffic police official Arab Jan told this correspondent that they would implement the reduced fare of Rs10 on all intra-city routes for students only. He said that they had removed obscene posters pasted inside passenger vans and rickshaws as all this amounted to eve teasing.
SALARY RAISED: Deputy commissioner, Kohat, Riaz Khan Mahsud raised the salary of female teachers of a sewing school at Milam Centre from Rs3,000 to Rs10,000 on Friday.
He also announced provision of 50 more sewing machines and 30 computers for the trainees. Mr Mahsud asked the social welfare officer to give proper salary to the doctor at the centre. Provincial secretary Sahibzada Mohammad Amin had paid a surprise visit to the centre following public complaints a few weeks ago and he had asked the district administration to streamline affairs of the centre.
Sources said that during the secretary’s visit the doctor working at the centre had complained to him that he was paid Rs6,000 per month whereas in account books of the social welfare department his salary had been mentioned as Rs16,000.
