Four hanged in Faisalabad jail

FAISALABAD: Another four militants convicted of their involvement in an attack on former president Pervez Musharraf were executed in the district jail here on Sunday afternoon, bringing the number of terrorists sent to the gallows over the past three days to six.

On Friday, Aqeel alias Dr Usman and Arshad, both from Rawalpindi, were hanged. These were the first hangings after the lifting of a moratorium on executions by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the wake of the Peshawar school attack.

Those hanged on Sunday were Zubair Ahmed alias Tuseef of Krore Paka, Lodhran; Ikhlas Ahmed alias Roosi of Haripur; Ghulam Sarwar of Bari Ziarat, Rawalpindi; and Rashid Mehmood alias Teepu of Syed Pura Road, Rawalpindi.

They had been detained in the high security barracks of the central jail and brought to the district jail at midnight.

There was a virtual curfew-like situation in areas around and between the two prisons and even army and police personnel were kept off the road for several hours.

Relatives of the executed men were at the jail to take their bodies to native towns.
