Inter recover to earn 2-2 draw in Lazio thriller
ROME: Lazio squandered a two-goal lead against Inter Milan as they drew 2-2 at the San Siro and wasted a golden chance to take sole possession of third spot in Serie A after Sampdoria and Genoa also failed to win on Sunday.
Felipe Anderson’s first-half double put Lazio in control but goals from Mateo Kovacic and Rodrigo Palacio late in the game salvaged a point for Roberto Mancini’s 11th-placed Inter.
Lazio moved above Napoli on goal difference. Sampdoria were also on 27 points after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Udinese in the final round of Serie A fixtures in 2014.
Genoa remained a point further back after losing 2-1 at relegation-threatened Torino while Inter are six behind Lazio and 18 adrift of leaders and champions Juventus.
Italy striker Manolo Gabbiadini grabbed the equaliser for Sampdoria against Udinese.
Sampdoria’s Pedro Obiang put the hosts in front after 15 minutes but Udinese turned the match around with goals from Alex Geijo and Danilo before the break before Gabbiadini headed Lorenzo Di Silvestri’s cross into the top right corner on the hour mark.
Genoa started the day level with Sampdoria and Lazio on 26 points, and last weekend’s defeat to AS Roma was their first league loss in more than two months.
Iago Falque fired Genoa in front shortly before half-time but Torino had Polish international defender Kamil Glik to thank for a brace of goals which secured just their fourth win of the campaign.
Earlier, Chievo Verona beat city rival Hellas Verona 1-0 in a heated derby match, Fiorentina were held to a 1-1 draw by Empoli, while Atalanta fought back from two goals down to draw 3-3 at home to Palermo.
