Call for plastic surgery, psychiatric treatment of Peshawar attack injured

QUETTA: The Forum for Dignity Initiative (FDI) has demanded of the government to take steps for the plastic surgery of 65 students of Army Public School in Peshawar who were seriously injured in the Dec 16 terrorist attack.

FDI is a non-governmental organisation working on issues of human rights, including minorities’ rights.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, FDI chief Uzma Yaqoob said that faces of several students were badly damaged by wounds they suffered by gunshots and bomb blasts in the attack.

She demanded of the government to provide financial assistance to the families of such students for their treatment.

Ms Yaqoob said the attack on the Peshawar school had created a sense of insecurity among students and teachers across the country.

She said the government, philanthropists and international donors should come forward to play their due role for the rehabilitation of those affected by the Peshawar school attack.

She said a number of students who witnessed brutal killings of their friends were suffering from different psychological disorders and there was a need to organise a team of psychiatrists who could help these children to come out of the trauma.
