Exchange of fire between Indo-Pak reported along Sialkot working boundary
SIALKOT: A cross-border exchange of fire was reported between Indian and Pakistani security forces along the working boundary in Sialkot's Bara Bhai sector early on Wednesday.
Security sources said that the Abdal Dogar post situated in Sialkot's Bara Bhai sector came under fire from the Sambhal post in India's Hira Nagar sector.
Sources further added that 14 mortar shells were also fired along with gunshots.
Pakistani forces responded with retaliatory firing.
Fear and panic gripped the area after the incident, however, there was no loss of life or property reported in the exchange of fire.
In December last year, the two countries had pledged to uphold the 2003 ceasefire accord which was left in tatters by repeated violations that year. The truce breaches had put the nascent bilateral peace dialogue on hold.
The Himalayan territory of Kashmir, which is the main contention, between the two countries, is divided between India and Pakistan by the UN-monitored de facto border of Line of Control (LoC). The territory is claimed in full by both the countries.
