New Year's eve: All roads leading to Sea View will be blocked

KARACHI: Special arrangements for traffic for Wednesday night have been made in light of New Year eve, a handout issued by provincial authorities said.

Road blocks will be erected approximately around 6:00pm today and the Sindh government has decided to deploy 7,000 policemen across Karachi.

All routes leading to Sea View will be blocked and pillion riding has been banned for 24 hours (until 6 am tomorrow). All bikers riding without silencers in their vehicles will be arrested.

Security in the city has been tightened in order to prevent any untoward incidents.

Residents of Karachi's Defence Housing Authority (DHA) will be allowed to enter the neighbourhood after showing their National Identity Cards (NIC) and roads leading to Khayaban-i-Ittehad and Seaview will be blocked.

Residents of DHA have been advised to use routes and diversions mentioned below to reach their destinations:

Vehicular traffic coming from Akhtar Colony via Expressway and Korangi area will not be allowed to move towards Khayaban-i-Ittehad (Sea View) and will be diverted on main Korangi Road, Sharah-i-Faisal, Regent Chowk, Club Chowk, Hoshing Chowk, Teen Talwar, Dou Talwar, Shahrah-i-Iran and Clifton Helipad.

To reach their destinations towards Khayaban-i-Ittehad, residents are advised to use 26th Street and turn right towards Sea View McDonald's and Village Restaurant.

No vehicular traffic would be allowed to move towards Submarine Chowrangi from Mai Kolachi Road and traffic will be stopped after 9:00 pm from KPT Bridge near the American Consulate. However, traffic will be allowed to move from Boat Basin towards Jinnah Bridge.

Routes will be completely closed for traffic from Boat Basin Chowrangi to Bilawal Chowrangi. Likewise, the route from Bilawal Chowrangi to Helipad road will be closed for traffic.

All heavy traffic coming from Mauripur Road will be allowed to move towards Mai Kolachi road and will be diverted from Jinnah Bridge to reach to their destination via Hub River Road and Sharah-i-Pakistan. Small traffic will be allowed from Jinnah Bridge towards M.T. Khan Road, PIDC, Club Chowk, Avari and towards Shahrah-i-Faisal.

All heavy traffic coming from Korangi Industrial area will be diverted towards National Highway to proceed towards Northern Bypass and onward. Roads will be completely closed for traffic from Sunset Boulevard towards Punjab Chowrangi, while other routes towards Korangi Road will remain open.

No vehicles will be allowed to park on main Shahrah-i-Faisal, Abdullah Haroon Road, Dr Ziauddin Ahmed Road, Mai Kolachi Road, Korangi Road and others in the vicinity.

The use of vehicles or motorcycles without silencers has been prohibited and any vehicle found travelling without them will be confiscated and handed over to local police for legal action.

Commuters from North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, New Karachi going towards DHA,are advised to use M A Jinnah Road, Garden Road, Zaibunnisa Street, Avari traffic signal, Club Chowk, Hoshang Chowk, Teen Talwar, Dou Talwar and 26th Street to turn towards Sea View McDonald's.

Whereas, commuters travelling towards DHA from Gadap, Bin Qasim, Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Jamshed Town and Saddar are advised to use main Shahrah-i-Faisal as well as the above-mentioned routes.

The residents of DHA residing in phase V, VI, VII can access Phase VIII by reaching the intersections and vice versa, which will be open for traffic. Roads such as 26th Street, Saba Avenue, Khayaban-i-Shaheen, Khayaban-i-Shujaat and Khayaban-i-Bahria intersection will all be open for traffic to move towards Khayaban-i-Ittehad.
