Operation Zarb-i-Azb has dismantled terrorist network: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said Wednesday that the ongoing Zarb-i-Azb operation has dismantled terrorist networks and their infrastructure in Wazirstan, said a report published on Radio Pakistan.

The PM was speaking to an eighteen-member delegation of the Afghan Parliament in Islamabad.

Peaceful Afghanistan is in Pakistan's interest

During the meeting, the PM also said that a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan is in Pakistan's interest. He said that both countries are focused on progressing towards regional prosperity by allowing their territories to be used against each other.

Adviser to the PM on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Political Secretary Dr Asif Kirmani, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Senator Afrasiab Khattak and National Assembly Minister Aftab Sherpao were present during the meeting.

The Afghan delegation was jointly led by Chairman International Affairs Commission Wolesi Jirga Abdul Qader Zazai and Senator Baz Mohammad Zormati.

The premier also said that both Afghanistan and Pakistan are committed to enhancing political engagement, trade, deeper security and counter-terrorism cooperation.

Commenting on the meeting, Sharif said that such parliamentary exchanges are advantageous in bringing the two countries closer.

Afghan parliamentarians stated that peace is in the best interests of both Pakistan and Afghanistan. The delegation also condemned the brutal Taliban attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar, which left 140 people dead — including 132 schoolchildren.

The parliamentarians added that Afghanistan appreciates Pakistan's commitment towards achieving peace in the region, and invited Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to visit Afghanistan at his convenience.

The delegation in Islamabad will attend the 12th session of Dialogue between parliamentarians of Pakistan and Afghanistan arranged by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency.

PM Nawaz calls Afghan president

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif spoke to Afghan president Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai via telephone and discussed bilateral ties and joint cooperation on counter-terrorism.

The Afghan president assured his country's full support for Pakistan's counter-terrorism efforts and said the terrorist is a joint enemy which needs to be tackled as such.
