Four children killed in Orakzai blast during volleyball match

KALAYA: Four children were killed and 10 others wounded in a remote-controlled blast near a crowded volleyball court in lower Orakzai Agency on Sunday.

Officials said on Monday that a volleyball match was in progress in the Kaza bazaar area when the explosion occurred, killing four children and injuring 10.

The injured were taken to a local hospital but later four of them were referred to Kohat because of their serious condition.

Officials said the remote-controlled device had been planted near the volleyball court.

Security forces cordoned off the area after the incident and carried out a search operation. Twelve suspects were picked up and shifted to an unknown location for interrogation.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan condemned the blast and directed the political administration to probe the incident and ensure that those found responsible were brought to justice.
