Raheem, Ali Zaman among eight in under-21 snooker quarters

KARACHI: Top two seeds — Abdul Raheem and Ali Zaman Khan — together with two internationals — Mohammad Faheem and Amir Tariq – were among eight who stormed into quarter-finals of the seventh national junior under-21 snooker championship at Movenpick Arcade on Thursday.

Top seed Abdul Raheem, who is also Punjab junior No 1, blanked Sindh’s Gawish Khan 4-0 (66-34, 69-33, 68-16, 57-15). Similarly, second seed and Sindh junior champion Ali Zaman Khan conceded second frame while registering an emphatic 4-1 victory over Sindh No 2 Fahad Khan. The scores were 57-55, 21-60, 74-55, 51-34, 62-35.

Faheem, who represented the country in the last year’s IBSF world under-21 snooker championship at Fujairah, removed Junaid Ali with ease 93-23, 101-40, 70-11, 77-66 while Amir, who featured in Asian under-21 event at Chundigarh last year, was home 62-39, 54-29, 78-32, 135-0 against Mohammad Bilal. He also piled up a break of 95 in the fourth frame surpassing the previous highest of 91 by Mohammad Afzaal on Wednesday.

Four other cueists who completed the quarter-final line up include Mohammad Hassan Anwar, Mohammad Adil, Mohammad Nouman and Mohammad Afzaal.

The best of seven frames quarter-finals will be played on Friday morning at 10am. This will be followed by semi-finals at 3pm.
