Govt firm on timely completion of Neelum-Jhelum project

ISLAMABAD: Efforts are being made to ensure timely completion of Neelum-Jhelum Hydro-power Project since it is a low-cost environment-friendly project.

Minister of State for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali said this while visiting the project site in Azad Kashmir on Friday, said a press release.

He warned of stern action against the contractors if the project was delayed or its quality compromised.

Prime Minsiter Nawaz Sharif was making efforts not only to resolve energy crisis but provide cheap electricity to common man, he said.

Mr Ali called for the emergency board’s meeting for addressing financial issues, saying constant cash flow was necessary for early completion of the project.

The government despite financial and tunnel blasting challenges was keen on bringing the Neelum-Jhelum project in the national grid, he said during a visit to the powerhouse, transformer hall, tunnel and weir (dam).

Chairman Wapda Zaffar Mahmood, Chief Executive Officer of Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project (retd) Lt Gen Mohammad Zubair, representatives of consultants and senior officers were present on the occasion.
