World Cup kit: Designers wanted 'quintessential' Pakistan colours

Craftsmen at a factory in Sialkot were proud to design a colour scheme of green chartreuse with a touch of dark green patterns as Pakistan’s official kit for the ICC World Cup 2015.

Producing a kit quintessentially representing Pakistan colours took an immense effort and expertise.

The colours resemble those worn by the Imran Khan’s men in the cup’s 1992 edition, which saw Pakistan clinch its first-ever World Cup victory.

Green chartreuse being the background colour of the kit, the upper side has dark green vertical stripes with ‘Pakistan’ printed in golden colour.

Team’s ‘sitara’ logo has been put on the left side of the shirt, whereas trouser has been designed with pattern in a dark shade of green on the back.

It took three months to design Pakistan’s colours for the World Cup, keeping in view the weather conditions of the tournament’s venues.

Australia and New Zealand host the cricket’s biggest tournament this year.

“New Zealand has a comparatively cold weather than that in Australia, so we have designed the clothing material accordingly,” said Zahid Javed, director of the kit manufacturing company.

A popular sports manufacturing company, CA Sports, was given the contract by Pakistan Cricket Board to prepare 5,000 kits.

Sialkot is known for producing quality sports equipment for local and international sports tournaments. The city’s sports industry rose to fame when it was assigned production of footballs for 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Workers at the factory say they prepared the kit with a lot of hard work and dedication and expect the Pakistan team to show the same level of dedication on the field.
