3D cinema being planned in Murree

LAHORE: The Punjab Council of Arts, a premier cultural body of the province, is building a 3D cinema in Murree Art Council (a district council works under the umbrella of the Punjab Council of Arts), officials told Dawn on Monday.

The 3D cinema is being built in the Murree Council’s auditorium on the directives of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The 350-seat facility will serve tourists and local residents of the area. The Murree Arts Council is located at The Mall, the picturesque shopping area of Murree. The work on reconstruction of the auditorium will commence in February and will complete in June.

The project’s estimated cost is Rs20 million, and its ambiance will be modern one.

Officials at the council said that the cinema would be a multipurpose hall where besides the screening of films, other functions would also be held there.

The complex will have good quality food, better seating arrangements, cleanliness and a stylish architecture. The cinema, according to officials, will screen both foreign and Pakistani films.

As the cinema sector is reviving fast across the country, the council may come up with such 3D cinemas in other cities if the Murree experience goes well, the official adds.
