Obesity, a big problem!

CHUBBY babies look cuddly but being chubby doesn’t mean that the child is healthy, just like 10-month-old Juanita Valentina Hernandez, who weighs 20kg, the same as an average five-year-old.

Juanita weighed only six pounds at birth, but weeks later began piling on weight. Her anxious mother, Sandra Fra­nco, from Libano, Colombia, said: “When she was 15 days old she was already look­ing chubby, because she was born very thin. Since then she’s been gaining weight. Now she is 10 months old and I have realised that she has morbid obesity.”

Last month, Colombian charity Gorditos de Corazon — Chubby Hearts — brought Juanita to the capital, Bogota, where a team of specialists began treatment. Juanita’s mother Sandra said: “To all mothers that have babies like this, please take care of our children if we don’t want them to get sick.”

SOMETIMES being unique in some way can mean a lot of trouble for that person. Take for instance, Carl Griffiths. With the biggest feet in Britain, the poor fellow can’t find a new pair of size 21 boots!

For the past three years, Carl has been playing in size 18 boots —with his toes curled up in the ends — to turn out for his local club. But after keeping them together with black sticky tape, they have now finally fallen apart. He is now appealing for help to find a new pair of boots that fit his feet.

Carl said: “At least when you have an injury, you know you just can’t play for a while. But when I’m out just because of not having shoes that fit, it’s just really frustrating.”

Carl has been forced to sit on the bench for a local club, Trimsaran RFC, — who have been missing the 6ft 8in player in their line-outs. Every sports firm he contacted, said they simply do not make boots as big as size 21.

OUR five senses play a vital role in our life and sometimes in coma as well! Believe it or not, Xiao Li, passed out in August 2013 after spending almost a week without sleep as he researched business ideas at an internet café.

The money-driven man remained in coma until one day, when chief medic Dr Liu Tang at a hospital in Shenzen, China, asked his family what really drove him, and he was told, ‘money!’

“When we learned about his fondness for money, we experimented with notes and change. We found a crisp, new 100 Yuan note crumpled under his nose and it worked best.”

To the utter amazement of the staff, Xiao twitched his fingers as he tried to reach up and snatch the 100 Yuan bill — worth £10 — while his eyelids flickered.

Dr Liu Tang said: “It was extraordinary — I’ve never seen anything like it in 20 years as a doctor. Memories of smell and sound can be very powerful stimulants.”

PEOPLE invent things which are quite innovative and sometimes too unique to imagine! Similarly, last week, a fast food restaurant ‘Simply Crispy,’ opened in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which is the world’s first crisp sandwich cafe.

So what’s crispy? Well, kids, the idea is to choose from dozens of different chips’ flavour, select your preferred bread and any filling such as cheese or ham and fill your sandwich with it, which is then served with fries, soup, etc.

The crisp sandwich cafe started as a joke article on a website and the hilarious piece poked fun at the funny foody trends like the cereal café that opened in London last month. Thus, what was once a satirical joke has now become reality, after Belfast cafe owner Andrew McMenamin decided to make it happen!
