Man ‘beaten’ by lawyers moves court
LAHORE: A man, who was allegedly humiliated and severely beaten up by a group of lawyers during proceedings at the sessions court, has approached the court for registration of a criminal case against the advocates.
An additional district and sessions judge on Monday heard the petition of Muhammad Yousaf, the victim, and sought a reply from the Lower Mall station house officer.
The petitioner alleged the lawyers beat him up for not listening to their ‘warnings’ against pursuing a car theft case. Yousaf had filed a petition against Mehmood Akhtar alias Nunah Shah.
On Jan 15, when he visited the court to attend hearing of his case, counsel for Nunah Shah accompanied by a number of lawyers attacked him.
The petitioner said the attackers led by Advocate Muhammad Saeed audaciously thrashed him in the presence of the judge. He said the lawyers later took him to the bar room and also invited other lawyers to join in their bashing terming him a fake advocate.
The petitioner said the furious advocates defaced him with black shoe polish and made him walk on the court premises. Finally, he said, the lawyers handed him over to Islampura police accusing him of impersonating an advocate. However, he said, the police investigated the matter and released him.
The petitioner stated that the Lower Mall SHO, when approached, refused to take action against the lawyers. He prayed to the court to order the SHO to lodge an FIR against lawyers.
