PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that sufficient funds will be provided for setting up several small hydel power stations in Chitral.

He said that many other developmental schemes would be launched in the district. He said that he would visit Chitral soon to inspect the developmental process there.

Talking to an eight-member delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf from Chitral here, the chief minister said that his government believed in uniform development of the province with judicious use of development funds whereas no discrimination would be made with any part of the province, said a handout.

However, he said that remote and backward areas would be given preference on need basis wherein transparent use of funds would be ensured so that the public money could not go waste or transferred to the pockets of the individuals.

The PTI delegation, led by MPA Bibi Fozia, called on Mr Khattak at CM Secretariat and apprised him of certain problems of the area. Other members of the delegation were Haji Rehmat Ghazi, Razeet Billah, Mohammad Qasim, Wazirzada, Nazir Ahmad, Aminul Hassan and Shah Hussain.

On the demand of the delegation, the chief minister approved giving status of municipal committees to Darosh town and Mastuj, provision of ambulance to Darosh hospital and upgrading it to category C, provision of two buses for girl students of Chitral and Darosh, additional funds for Chitral campus of Benazir Sheringal University in next ADP, increasing salaries of the staff of Reshoon hydel station, retendering of the rehabilitation of flood affected areas, expansion of road from Varagun to Tarich, Kosht to Loane Mastuj and Bamborate to Rombore, blacktopping of link roads in Chitral town, irrigation channel of Charun Oveer road, water supply schemes of Shotkhar and Torkoh in the new ADP.

Says several other projects will be launched in the district

Taking notice of certain complaints of the delegation, the chief minister directed the deputy commissioner of Chitral to conduct inquiry into embezzlement of funds meant for water supply schemes of Golen, Darosh, Parwak and Ayun.

Mr Khattak said that Chitral was a backward district of the province and government was taking concrete steps to bring such parts at par with developed areas of the province.

He said that new development schemes would be included in the next ADP. He said that it was a policy of the provincial government to strengthen the existing institutions by making available all required facilities instead of constructing and establishing new buildings in health and education sectors.

The chief minister said that erecting structures and buildings without facilities always gave no benefits to the people except wastage of the public money. He said that government was taking solid steps to equip all the existing institutions with latest machineries and facilities while later attention would also be given to setting new buildings and institutions as per need basis.

He said that provincial government was spending 80 per cent of its resources on the ongoing schemes while rest of 20 per cent were spent the new schemes to keep the process of development continued.

Mr Khattak said that it was easy to rule and enjoy but difficult to deliver and come up to the expectations of the masses after coming into power. “We, instead of enjoying the luxuries of the government and hoodwinking the people by merely lip service, are endeavouring to fulfil the needs and expectations of the poor and for this purpose we were working round the clock to deliver accordingly,” he said.

The chief minister said that people were being benefited from the fruits of the measures of the government and they would see and feel more pleasant changes in their surroundings owing to the realistic steps of provincial government.

Mr Khattak asked PTI office-bearers and lawmakers to play dynamic role in selflessly serving the people of their areas.
