1,500 policewomen to be recruited

KARACHI: The Sindh police have decided to recruit 1,500 women in accordance with its plan to encourage women to join the law enforcement agency, an official statement said on Friday.

It added that Sindh IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali announced the decision while speaking to a three-member delegation of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Pakistan, embassy of the United States, which met him at the central police office.

“The IG said during the meeting that the Sindh police have decided to induct at least 1,500 lady constables during the current recruitment,” said the CPO statement. “The women police officers are being encouraged to join the force and they would also be provided with antiterrorism training. Similarly, the delegation was informed that forensic laboratory facilities were also being extended to Hyderabad and Sukkur police range.”

The delegation was headed by US consulate attaché in Karachi Brooke E. deMontluzin, who discussed in detail various capacity-building measures and strengthening and expansion of surveillance and monitoring system.

“The delegation expressed its commitment of executing all the proposed and agreed projects. The delegation was informed about installation of 2,000 more surveillance cameras at 400 new identified locations in the city for which the bureau is providing all necessary assistance. The expansion project would be launched shortly.”

Expressing gratitude to the bureau and the US government, the Sindh IG said that with the capacity-building measures, addition of such sophisticated devices would enhance the investigation capacity of the department, the statement added.
