SANGHAR: Rulers slammed on Kalabagh issue

SANGHAR, Sept 21: The Jeay Sindh Mutahidda Mahaz activists took out a protest procession in Khipro on Sunday against the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam.

The procession began from Shaheed Chowk and marched on main roads of the town with the participants carrying placards and banners and raising slogans.

Speaking on the occasion, JSMM leader Mir Alam Mari said that the devastation in Badin was not caused by rains but the Left Bank Outfall Drain. He added that the rulers had found an excuse in the rains for building the Kalabagh dam.

He criticized the campaign launched by President Gen Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid group) chief Choudhry Shujaat Hussain in favour of the projects which were injurious to the interest of Sindh.

Mr Mari alleged that Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar was a protege of a particular province and appealed to him to resign if he could not serve the interests of Sindh.

He also appealed to Mutahidda Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain to take a firm stand on the water issue as he had done in the case of ‘no-go areas.’

The JSMM leader demanded that water sharing among the provinces should be made according to the 1945 accord.

Khair Mohammad Mari, Khuda Bukhsh, Ghulam Mustafa and others also spoke on the occasion.

Our Dadu correspondent adds: A large number of citizens and workers of the Sindh People’s Youth Organization held a demonstration outside local press club on Sunday to protest against the greater Thal canal and Kalabagh dam projects.

They were led by the district president of the PPP youth wing, Anwar Mallah.
