NAB launches inquiry against 600 'fake' teachers in Balochistan

QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched an inquiry against more than 600 teachers recruited on fake documents in Balochistan education department, it was learnt on Monday.

Sources in the education department told Dawn that NAB has nearly completed an inquiry against more than 200 fraudulent teachers.

The teachers have been working in primary, middle and high schools in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan for more than 10 years, they said. Besides termination from jobs, recoveries would also be made from 'fake' teachers, they added.

The NAB sources said that most of the teachers obtained bogus educational certificates from different institutions in Sindh. Most of the teachers were appointed on fake documents in Quetta, Panjgur, Killa Abdullah, Bolan, Pishin and other parts of Balochistan.

"We have decided to clean education of fake teachers," Saboor Kakar, Secretary Education Balochistan told Dawn. The education department has already constituted committees to unearth the 'fake' teachers and ghost schools across the province.

"These fake teachers will not be spared," Kakar vowed, saying that all out efforts were being made to ensure merit in education department.

For the first time, Balochistan government has allocated a 24 percent budget for promotion of education and salaries of teachers in the province.

The government has also launched a campaign titled 'Welcome to School' to ensure enrollment of out-of-school children in the province.

During the campaign 600,000 children wil be enrolled in schools across the province, Kakar stated.
