Imran lavishes praise on KP in bid to attract investment

DUBAI: Seeking to attract overseas investment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Wednesday lavished praise on the northwestern province and said that with the improved security situation, it was the best time for investors to come in.

“We are setting up investment cells to make things easier for investors,” said the PTI chairman in Dubai, while participating in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Investment Roadshow 2015.

He said an office to specifically deal with investors would be set up in the Chief Minister's Secretariat to 'redress any problems faced by investors'.

“If you’re a risk-taker, this is the time to invest in KP,” he said, adding that 'returns on investment are impressive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa'.

Development of mass transit system planned in Peshawar

Imran said the development of a mass transit system has been planned in the provincial capital city of Peshawar, which is environmental-friendly and aimed at reducing congestion.

"KP wants to develop marble cities, granite processing plants. KP is an extremely fertile land for quality crops, fruit, vegetables. Both national and international airlines connect to Peshawar and all of Pakistan is accessible with ease."

Violence in KP on decline

Khan claimed that the security situation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had deteriorated due to Afghanistan and the United States. However, he said, the level of violence in the region was on a decline as the United States was withdrawing its forces from Afghanistan.

Talking to reporters before the launch of the event, he said, "There has been a lot of provincial autonomy after the passage of the 18th amendment. So provinces have a lot of opportunities now to control their own governance."

Khan said that KP had the least amount of corruption as compared to the other three provinces, adding that corruption was being 'curbed further'.

Veena meets Imran

Controversial actor Veena Malik also met with Imran and his newly-wed wife Reham Khan during his visit to Dubai.

The actor tweeted saying that she had a great time with Imran and Reham.

Veena's husband Asad Khan also thanked Imran and Reham for their company.

The two also made a donation to Imran's Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital situated in Peshawar.
