Maiden four-a-side basketball commences

KARACHI: Four matches in seniors and two in under-18 were decided when four-a-side (half court) tournament commenced at the Arambagh floodlit court on Monday evening.

Being held for the first time under the aegis of Karachi Basketball Association, the competition is aimed at improving shooting skills and individual performance of players.

According to its format, a team shall comprised four players with three allowed to play while the fourth can come in as a substitute. It has been designed as the best of three with two halves of 10-minutes each.

Eight teams have entered the seniors event while four are vying for honours in under-18 category.

This will be followed by another competition – free throw, two-point shooting and three-point shooting, the KBA secretary and a former international Abdul Nasir said.

Former player and coach, Tariq Hussain is supervising the event with the assistance of coach, Mumtaz Ahmed.

In the first under-18 match, Shah Wilayat School chalked up straight victories over Knight Club. They were home 21-14 in the first game and 22-14 in the second.

In the second, Pafian Club conjured up 22-16 and 22-16 victories over Apsians Club.

In seniors, Dow International Medical College (DIMC) –I sent DIMC – 3 packing straight 36-25, 37-34; Nishtar Club outplayed Gulshan Club 40-23, 42-27; DIMC–2 trounced National Club 32-21, 37-27 while Clifton Crossovers carved out 36-23 and 40-37 victory over Arambagh Club.
