World’s first edible coffee cup

GOOD news for all the coffee and chocolate lovers — KFC has introduced world’s first edible coffee cups made from heat-resistant white chocolate.

Aptly named the ‘Scoff-ee Cup’, the tasty treat has been made from a unique biscuit, wrapped in sugar paper and lined with an indulgent layer of chocolate, which keeps the coffee hot and the cup crispy.

But, over time, the chocolate lining begins to melt so you really can have your ‘cup’ and eat it too; created in partnership with renowned food scientists, The Robin Collective.

Brandy Wright of The Robin Collective said: “We’ve infused different cups with a variety of ambient aromas including coconut sun cream, freshly cut grass and wild flowers.”

The Scoff-ee Cup is currently under development and not yet available for customers in stores.

Molten aluminium makes casts of ant nest

RED imported fire ants are a highly aggressive species that have a painful bite, and they can destroy crops and eradicate birds, lizards and ground-dwelling bees from an area.

We often use different sprays to get rid of these ants, but one artist is using something different: molten aluminium. The aluminium is carefully poured into the top of the ant hill, and the metal goes throughout all of the tunnels and settles into all of the crevices. Once the aluminium has cooled and the dirt has been washed away, the cast makes a perfect representation of the nest’s internal structure.

Making models of the nests allow scientists to study differences between species, as not all ants make the same nests. For instance, carpenter ants have simple nests with only a few tunnels and these red imported fire ants have highly complex networks of rooms and tunnels.
