Sukkur power officials suspended

ISLAMABAD: Two top officials of the Sukkur Electric Supply Company (Sepco) were suspended on Friday for their failure to meet performance targets.

According to a statement issued by the ministry of water and power, Sepco Chief Executive Officer Munawar Nazeer Abbasi and Manager, Commercial, Hadi Dino Sheikh, were “suspended on poor performance and for not achieving the targets as set out in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) they had signed with the government”.

As part of power sector reforms, the government has signed performance-based MoUs with the managements of all electricity companies to increase recovery of dues and reduce system losses.

The statement said Sepco’s default amount for July last year to February stood at Rs6.96 billion, while government receivables were Rs6.46bn.

The ministry said the company’s recovery of dues during the period was 51 per cent and its transmission and distribution losses remained 36pc against 17pc allowed by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra). The recovery during the corresponding period of the previous year was 55pc.
