More suspects behind bars in lynching case

LAHORE: Some 25 or more suspects were arrested on Tuesday in the lynching case of two men in Youhanabad, police said.

SSP Investigation Rana Ayyaz Saleem said another 25 suspects involved in different cases were arrested from Youhanabad and different areas of the country.

He said six suspects were arrested for their involvement in the lynching case, 12 in damaging public and private property and seven for rioting on the second day of the blasts.

He said the suspects were taken into custody after verification through a footage and Nadra reports.

Meanwhile, a resident of the area, Qaiser Masih, told this reporter that police had been carrying out raids on different houses in Youhanabad since the third day of the twin blasts.

He said residents were migrating to different areas of the country because police were arresting male members of the community at random.

He said more than 100 young men had so far been arrested for their alleged involvement in the lynching and other cases.

Qaiser said families of the arrested men were even not informed about the whereabouts of their kin.

“No police officer is allowing any of the family members to meet the men in custody. Some of the families approached the courts and now police have started acknowledging the arrests and producing them before the court. We are still living in a state of fear and all the arrested men have not been produced before the court,” Qaiser said.

An anti-terrorism court had on Monday sent 28 suspects on judicial remand with a direction to police to arrest other suspects involved in lynching of two men and damaging public and private property.
