50 personnel inducted in Chitral Levies

CHITRAL: Fifty soldiers were inducted in Chitral Levies here on Tuesday after successful completion of their two-month training.

DIG Azad Khan, who was chief guest at the passing out parade, administered oath to the soldiers. The soldiers were trained by the district police.

Addressing the passing out parade, the DIG asked the soldiers to concentrate on their professional grooming and guard the borders of the district, which had long and porous borders with Afghanistan.

He said that the war against terrorism increased their responsibilities as they were guarding the long and porous border with Afghanistan. He said that Levies Force successfully warded off intrusion of terrorists from the neighbouring country.

The DIG said that reforms were being introduced in police to streamline the force on the lines of emerging needs. He said that capacity building and training of police force were their top priorities.

The official said that coordination among different institutions was inevitable for maintenance of peace and making security arrangements fool-proof. That’s why training was imparted to Chitral Levies by police, he added.

Earlier, Chitral DPO highlighted the problems faced by police, which according to him, included shortage of manpower and non-provision of special risk allowance to policemen in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Aminul Haq, who is commandant of Chitral Levies, also attended the passing out parade and accompanied the chief guest.

The recruits winning best prizes included Ahsanullah (parade), Nazir Ahmed (firing) and Sajjad Ahmed (class work).
