Strike observed in Sanghar over civic issues

SANGHAR: A strike was observed across Sanghar city on Monday against excessive power and gas loadshedding, water shortage, rundown civic infrastructure and a lack of basic amenities.

All trade and business concerns, shopping malls, shops and private educational institutions remained closed and vehicular traffic remained off the road in response to a call jointly given by the Citizens Action Committee (CAC), local chamber of commerce and the District Bar Association. A token hunger strike was also observed by CAC activists outside the local press club.

Leading the protest, activist Hassan Askari said the city had become victim of absolute neglect and the deputy commissioner was not heeding their constant demands to look into the numerous issues being faced by citizens. He said the road network in the entire district was in a shabby state, excessive power and gas loadshedding had made people’s lives miserable, sanitary workers were not attending to their duties and Sanghar city was hit by an acute water shortage.
