Quetta transporters block roads in protest

QUETTA: Transporters blocked main roads in the city for hours on Monday in protest against the shifting of the mini-bus stand to Hazargangi.

Commuters faced hardship and inconvenience while transporters vowed to continue the protest if their demands were not met.

Kabir Bazai of the Milli Watan Bus Association and Abdullah Kurd of All Quetta-Karachi Coaches Union told journalists that they would not allow the mini-bus stand at Sariab and Spiny roads to be shifted to Hazargangi as there was no safety in that area.

They alleged that the government’s decision of providing pick-and-drop facility at Jabal al-Noor graveyard was aimed at occupying the area to provide financial benefit to influential figures.

Representatives of transporters said that although the chief minister had assured them of providing all facilities at the new terminal, the administration had failed to fulfil the commitment despite the passage of one year.

They said they would not shift to Hazargangi until the government provided them security.
