SIALKOT: A Pakistani villager who mistakenly crossed the Sialkot Working Boundary into India on Friday was shot dead by Indian border forces, the Chenab Rangers (CR) said.

A CR spokesman told media that 40-year-old Amanat Ali, a resident of Sariya Kothey-Shakargarh village, was harvesting wheat crop in his field near Suniari-Shakargarh village along the Working Boundary when he inadvertently crossed into Indian side at about 1pm.

He said India’s Border Security Force (BSF) contacted the CR officials and informed them that a Pakistani national had tried to cross into Indian side. Later, they handed over the body of the villager to Pakistani officials, he added.

Sources said the BSF officials initially refused to hand over the body, but later officials of the two sides held a flag meeting where they handed over the body.
