THIS is apropos the report about the falling of 11KV HT wires on a bus carrying metallic boxes on its roof top, which touched HT wires too close as 17 feet from the ground level instead of specified 25 feet.

The Sukkur Electric Supply Company (Sueco) and NTDC must be held responsible as they failed to ensure that specified distance was not maintained. This caused the deaths of 12commuters and injured 25 in the bus which caught fire.

I also wrote in the past about a few such incidents but the authorities appear to have taken no notice of this. The permissible sag or dip of transmission line must not exceed 7.16 feet between a span of 500 feet. This aspect must be implemented for future reference and the same can also be applied to the rest of areas of NTDC and discos.

Furthermore, I would like to ask the federal minister of water and power to issue orders to all entities concerned for strict compliance of safety measures to avert any accident in future.
