DSP gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI: A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) along with a friend was gunned down in Shah Faisal area of the metropolis late on Saturday night, the police said.

According to the IG Police Sindh office unidentified assailants fired at DSP Syed Zulfiqar Abbas at a restaurant near Eidgah Ground in Shah Faisal locality where he was sitting with his friend identified as Shahzad, son of Ansar Ali.

The bodies were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities. The police have started investigation into the incident.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the incident of firing in Karachi in which DSP Zulfiqar Zaidi lost his life. He directed provincial government to beef up security in the provincial capital to avoid such instances.

Seeking report into the incident, the prime minister emphasised on the need of taking steps for boosting the morale of the police force as it has a key role in maintaining law and order. He reiterated that government is fully committed to restoring peace and stability in Karachi so that its citizens can lead their lives in tranquility.

Earlier in the day, a doctor was killed in city's Nazimabad area.
