DSP, driver shot dead in Karachi

KARACHI: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was shot dead along with his driver in the city’s Shah Faisal Colony locality on Saturday night.

Officials said armed men on a motorcycle fired shots on 55-year-old DSP Zulfiqar Zaidi when he was having dinner at a roadside restaurant in Shah Faisal Colony No 2 with his driver Mohammad Shoaib. The two suffered multiple bullet injuries and died on the spot.

“It was the DSP’s daily routine to have dinner at the restaurant before returning home in Shah Faisal Colony No 3,” said SSP of Korangi Junaid Sheikh.

“Apparently, it is an attack on sectarian grounds but we are investigating into the incident from different angles,” he said.

A DSP was gunned down along with two policemen in the city on May 1 and on May 2, an SSP escaped an attack on his convoy.
