Haider hits 249 against Hyderabad

KARACHI: Opener Haider Ali smashed a towering 249 as Karachi drew their second-round PCB-Pepsi Cricket Stars U-16 Tournament fixture against Hyderabad here at the National Stadium on Monday.

Karachi, replying to Hyderabad’s 219, collected 376-4 in the allotted 70-over quota for the first innings after resuming the last day of the two-day game at 133-1. The second-wicket partnership between Haider and Mohammad Amin produced 303 runs in 252 minutes.

Haider stole the show by hammering 28 boundaries and 11 sixes during his 214-ball knock, while Amin contributed a sedate 101 from 185 balls with the aid of only nine fours.

Mohammad Suleman then completed his second half century of the match. He made 90 (120 balls, 18 fours and one six) as the visitors collected 178-4 in the second innings.

Lahore and Multan maintained their winning run following victories in the first round, while the remaining five other fixtures also were drawn.

Lahore annihilated Quetta by innings and 20 runs in their Pool ‘A’ tie at the Shah Faisal Cricket Ground in Lahore.

Quetta folded up for 140 in their first innings while responding to Lahore’s 291. Forced to follow on, they were sent packing for 131 with leg-spinner Ahmer Jalil grabbing 6-24 in 18.5 overs to finish with match haul of 9-57.

Multan were too good for Azad Jammu Kashmir, winning their Pool ‘D’ encounter at the Bhutto Cricket Ground in Islamabad by seven wickets. Slow left-armer Mohammad Huzaifa claimed five wickets in each innings to return match figures of 10-63 in 47.1 overs.

The third round of fixtures will begin from Wednesday.
