Demo against slaughterhouse in residential area

PESHAWAR: Dwellers of Landi Sarak, Charsadda Road here on Sunday held a demonstration against the Municipal Corporation Peshawar (MCP) for setting up a slaughterhouse inside the populated area and demanded its early shifting to rid them of foul smell and dirt.

Holding banners and placards inscribed with demands for shifting the slaughterhouse, the protesters warned to block the main road if MCP didn’t pay immediate attention towards the issue. The protesters said traders had opened godowns of animal hides inside the residential locality, making the movement of people difficult.

The children and women, they said were the worst affected, adding that hides were cleaned in streets, causing foul smell. They said traders, mostly Afghans, had turned Charsadda Road as a hide market.

The protesters alleged that butches boiled substandard fats and supplied the same to different chapli kabab outlets in the provincial capital, despite a ban on the trade.

They said the area elders had time and again requested the MCP officials to get the illegal trade closed down, but to no avail.

The protesters demanded of the MCP administrator Syed Zafar Ali Shah to visit the area and solve the problem on priority basis.
