An occasion for musical stir

LAHORE: Fabulous dance performances at ‘Dance Manao Day’ organised by the Institute of Performing Arts (IPA) in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council (LAC) enthralled the audience on Sunday.

It was a lovely, lively evening at Alhamra, where besides folk and classical dance performances, electrifying dance made the audience joyful. A collaborative effort by Nighat Chaudhary Foundation, Wahab Shah Dance Company and Dugdugi provided the audience a highly qualitative entertainment for more than three hours.

In his opening remarks, LAC Executive Director Atta Muhammad Khan held the efforts of the IPA for the promotion of dance in high esteem. He said the LAC would continue to promote and support all genres of performing arts.

The first performance of the show was of Ravi Jhoomar, a folk dance well received by the audience. Suhaee Abro, a Karachi-based Bharatanatyam dancer, earned a thunderous round of applause. Abro specialises in Bharatanatyam, and has also learnt Kathak and Odissi. She is also one of the founders and Dance Director/Performing Artist of the group Nritaal, Karachi.

Classical dancer Imran Jahangir also impressed the audience with his performance. Nighat Chaudhary, Wahab Shah, Mani Chao, Amna Mawaz, Zahra Khalid, Gunga Saeen and Mithu Saeen Dholiya and many others came up with good performances.

The show was a big one in Lahore which hasn’t seen such activity for the last many years. The hall was jam-packed and those who came late saw the performances sitting on stairs. The performances culminated into a dhamal.

The organisers thanked the audience saying the IPA would continue to play a pivotal role in the promotion of all genres of dance.
