KARACHI: Computerized traffic signals planned

KARACHI, Oct 3: The transport and communication department of the city government has completed planning for the signalization of various roundabouts, T-junctions and intersections to reduce traffic pressure.

The plan includes three different works — installation of modern signals, replacement of old signals with modern computerized signals and improvement of roundabouts — of which the department has presented details to DCO Mir Hussain Ali at a meeting here on Friday.

It was decided that the proposed plan be finalized and submitted to the District Development Working Party (DDWP) for an approval.

According to the plan, modern signals would be installed at the intersections of Lundi Kotal/ Allama Rasheed Turabi Road, North Nazimabad, Ziauddin Hospital, Korangi No 5, KDA/ North Nazimabad, UP Morr/ North Karachi, Rashid Minhas Road/Sharea Faisal and Shabbir Usmani Road.

The computerized signals would be installed at 18 existing signalized intersections and another one at a Pelican crossing. The removed old signals would be reinstalled at 19 intersections in other areas.

The DCO was informed that at present, there were 149 signals functioning in the city limits and out of them 98 were computerized ones. On completion of the plan, the number of computerized signals would go up to 116.—APP
