PESHAWAR: A training aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force crashed in Swabi district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Monday.

In a short statement, PAF spokesperson Air Commodore SM ALi said that a K-8 trainer aircraft was destroyed when it crashed during a training mission in Zaida village of KP's Swabi district.

The spokesman added that both pilots of the aircraft ejected safely.

He further said a board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of accident.

No loss of civilian life or property was reported on the ground.

Earlier this month an army helicopter ferrying foreign envoys and their spouses crashed into a school in Gilgit's scenic Naltar Valley, killing at least eight people.

The ambassadors of Norway, Indonesia and the Philippines were among the dead.

Wives of the Ambassador of Indonesia and the High Commissioner of Malaysia, both pilots of the Mi-17 chopper and a crew member were also killed in the accident, reportedly caused due to a technical fault during landing.

A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mirage aircraft had also crashed near Balochistan's Sonmiani tehsil in April during a routine operational training mission. The pilot had remained unhurt in the incident as he had managed to eject safely before the crash.
